'Srebrenican Horse' 2010
105 x 205 cm
oil & acrylic on canvas

Fruits From Babylon is the first one man show by painter Fendry Ekel at Metis-NL Gallery, Amsterdam. The exhibition will present a group of new paintings which explore the changing of political structure in Europe regarding the European Unification. Herein Ekel took inspiration from Picasso’s painting ‘Guernica’, which, at the beginning of the Modern Art movement early last century demonstrated the position that art can possibly take next to political and cultural actuality. The painting series depicting chess horse pieces also included in the exhibition, metaphorically shows how the artist deals with his subject matter. Those paintings as it where are Fendry Ekel’s Trojan horses within the tradition of Modern Art history, which forms his background as an artist.
